- This example represents C3 splitter. (C3 means propane, propylene)
- The most popular uses of propylene gas include usage in the petrochemical industry, creation of polypropylene, and is also used as an acetylene alternative in oxy-fuel welding and cutting, brazing and heating of metal for bending purpose. (Polypropylene is used in automobile parts, household electrical parts, medical supplies, food packing films, plastic, etc.)
- Propane known as liquefied petroleum gas, of LPG is a gas normally compressed and stored as a liquid. Propane is commonly used for fuel for engine application such as forklifts, farm irrigation engine, fleet vehicles, and buses
- Because propane and propylene don't have azeotrope point, they can be isolated although these have similar boiling point. (Propane : -42.1$\mathrm{^\circ C}$, Propylene : -47.6$\mathrm{^\circ C}$)
- Propane/propylene is to be split in a conventional fractionator with 149 theoretical trays including condenser and reboiler.
- In general, separation processes for propane and propylene can be divided with heat pump.

2. Objective
Propane/propylene is to be split in a conventional fractionator with 149 theoretical trays including condenser and reboiler. VLE data is available at the column thermal conditions, from which Peng-Robinson interaction coefficients were regressed, using the REGRESS, a program included with the Thermo Data Manager that may be installed with AVEVA PRO/II Simulation.
