- The Benfield process absorbs carbon dioxide from the gas flow using hot potassium carbonate.
- This process was first developed in Pennsylvania by the U.S. Department of Mining and improved by H.E. Benson and J.H. Field during the 1970s.

Design the Benfield process. A sour gas feed containing 8.0 mole percent CO2 that needs to be sweetened. This example models the treatment facility designed to bring the concentration of CO2 in 40,000 m3/hr of natural gas to less than 500 ppm.
